I'm often ashamed of myself for judging people based on how they look. Oh I know - most people do that - but I want to be able to see a person's soul - and not allow the 'vessel' [if you will] that carries that soul to influence what I think of them. I always try to look beyond what I can see with my eyes - and sometimes I'm successful - but it's not easy to do. We live in a world that never lets up on doing 'its' best to convince us that the most important thing there is - is how you LOOK. Who you ARE - really doesn't matter all that much. IF you're 'pretty' or 'handsome' - THEN you have value. If you're YOUNG or tall or skinny [or whatever] THEN you're worth something. But that's not the truth - and I hate the 'world' for lying to me. [and to everyone else] And I hate the fact that I often buy into that lie. What could be more horrible - when you think about it - than to dismiss someone for no other reason than for how they LOOK? But we do this all the time. If a pretty person [male or female] is nice to you - don't you think that's more flattering than if a not-so-pretty person is nice? And what if a pretty person dies in a car accident - don't you think that's just a little bit sadder than if a NOT-so-pretty person dies? [and I mean someone you don't know] I'm ashamed to admit it - but I sometimes think that. [inspite of knowing better] And I hate that about me. Is there anything wrong with being 'pretty'? Absolutely not. But what a person looks like has absolutely NOTHING to do with what they ARE like. OR how much they're worth.
We all have a soul. And all of our souls are of equal value. The body that our souls are in - does NOT effect the value of our souls. No soul is worth more [or less] than any other soul. So isn't it sad - then - that we often put a value on a human being based on nothing more than what they look like? I think so. [and I would like to think that you think so to]
Some of the most beautiful people in the world - aren't beautiful at all.
